Do you remember Galateia? She is the vulture that was “adopted” and named by the students of Agios Dimitrios Primary School in Paphos during the Ostrakon Project awareness activities.
Recently, Galateia was detected moving at an unusual distance from her natural habitat, specifically in the Oroklini area, where she remained stationary in a high-risk zone. Thanks to immediate GPS motion data analysis and close monitoring by BirdLife Cyprus, her condition was assessed in real-time, ensuring she was not in immediate danger of poisoning or exhaustion.

As part of the Ostrakon Project, Air Balloon continues to closely monitor the progress and well-being of the critically endangered Griffon Vulture population in Cyprus. Galateia’s recent activity serves as a significant example of the effectiveness of telemetry systems (GPS).
The name “Galateia” was chosen by the students of Agios Dimitrios Primary School in Paphos.
